You just sold your project car - next guy has it, fixed it well enough, and plans to flip it. Do you want to know? Do you REALLY want to know?
Obviously I am pro let sleeping dogs lie and do whatever you plan to do with the truck. This is a super quick flip, my buddy bought the truck last weekish. What would you do oppo?

yeah, that’s just bad form

Oh wow, that is convenient timing! If I’m selling something, it’s because I no longer have an attachment to it or I can’t/don’t want to fix it myself.
The only time I ever felt kinda salty to learn about what happened with a previous vehicle was when I figured out I was so close to getting that one scooter running that its new owner had it running within an hour or so of buying it.

That’s just rubbing the PO’s nose in their failure. Nope.

That’s kind of what’s happening here. The guy was a few hundred and some time away from things coming to a proper(ish) fix and he would have been able to sell for a lot more.

Whenever I sell a project car, it always makes me sad to see it go. (Even if the money is going towards a new and more exciting project).
Seeing it in the wild always brings back that melancholy, especially if it wasn’t loved by the guy who bought it.
My last project car that I sold showed up on CL 3 times in the first year. That was rough.

I sure would have preferred to not know that my Civic was stolen and stripped within months of the new owner having it.

He’s not giving a heads up, just trying to prove something. Total beta

but what if he says he’d buy it back since it’s fixed? (odd, but people are odd)

Leave it alone. It was a business transaction, not a new relationship.

yep that just a dick move
i mean flipping something someone was attached to kinda is in its own right.. especially if they made a fuss about it’
but then im poor for a reason.... i wouldnt flip it... and i sure as fuck wouldnt rub the previous guys nose in it

I can agree with that. I ran an autocheck on one of my old favorites and found out it was totaled in a roll over crash (older convertible mind you) so that was a little sad.

must’ve been one helluva project!

If I wanted to know about it, I’d ask you.
Having said this, probably not polite or good form to tout this sort of stuff to the PO anyhow.

Maybe if he gave some indication that he still wanted the car when he sold it, I suppose.
I’m just thinking that if he’s interested, he’ll see the CL ad and call.

excellent point there - just playing devil’s advocate of course with my question.

No. In this respect, ignorance is most definitely bliss. Unless it like, wins awards at a car show or something.

nah, he’s legitimately just trying to do what’s right in the flip. Since the guy had such an attachment, he was thinking it would soften the blow if he sees it for sale

I thought it was a pretty decent car. ‘88 Thunderbird, 5.0, 5 speed swap. Ran perfect for me for roughly 5 years after I found the dead coil (the reason the previous owner was selling it). I did some junkyard sourced upgrades and some repairs, but it was a trusty 2nd car for me.
Traded it to a kid for some cash plus an Integra (the chosen do no r for the new project), and he asked several questions about problems I never had with it, and then a month later I see it up for sale for significantly more than I valued it at when I traded it. And no, he didn’t obviously fix any problems. After that it was up for sale again with a new intake and an obvious dent on the fender. Then once more in the same condition.
Not a good feeling.

Oof. That's terrible.

I don’t know the guy, but if he is really worried about the guy’ s feelings, shouldn’t he have told the seller his intentions during negotiations?
![]() 03/07/2019 at 17:28 |

I figured - unless I had some vibe that he would want it, I would definitely not call him, personally.

True, he may have. Idk that for sure.

Naw dont tell the guy.
When i sold my AWD 2g Talon it was back on CL in like 3 weeks or so with a radio added and a few other small things. I was the 11th owner too...
![]() 03/07/2019 at 18:36 |

Pfft. You tell him, he’s gonna want it back. He let it go for a reason - however big or small the problems were, he clearly couldn’t see a way through them. That’s on him.
![]() 03/07/2019 at 20:18 |

Unless he’s giving the guy a share of the profits he should keep it to himself. If the PO texts and asks about it then a bsolutely tell him it’s been sold, but anything beyond that is not cool.

it stings a little still. I really hope the driver didn’t pass in the accident

Questions from problems you never had always make me feel good about the new owner. Like what thing did you immediately try to do that broke something?

perfect way to describe it

Also made me feel good about my wrenching skills, he was asking about one of the few systems I didn’t touch.
